چکیده

New constraints on the large-scale wind structures responsible for discrete absorption components are obtained from far-ultraviolet time-series observations of O supergiants in the Large Magellanic Cloud. 1. What Causes DACs? Discrete absorption components (DACs) are optical depth enhancements in the absorption troughs of P Cygni profiles, which (a) occur very commonly in wind profiles of OB-type stars; (b) accelerate slowly compared with the expected wind flow; and (c) often recur on time scales related to stellar rotation. Since the radial optical depth at any position v ≡ v(r) in an expanding wind is given by the Sobolev approximation

We report the detection with FUSE of strong, highly blue-shifted absorption features appearing in the absorption troughs of practically all major P Cygni profiles in the presumably single Wolf-Rayet star WR135. These features also appear in the shock-sensitive OVI 1032/38Å doublet, coincident both in time and velocity space with the rest of the lower-ionization species. Choosing between two alt...

The Detection of Wind Variability in Magellanic Cloud O Stars

We present Far Ultraviolet Explorer (FUSE) spectra for three Magellanic Cloud O stars (Sk 80, Sk −67◦05 and Sk −67◦111) with repeated observations. The data demonstrate the capabilities of FUSE to perform time-resolved spectroscopy on extragalactic stars. The wavelength coverage of FUSE provides access to resonance lines due to less abundant species, such as sulfur, which are unsaturated in O s...

Mass Loss and Evolution of Stars and Star Clusters: a Personal Historical Perspective

The development and progress of the studies of winds and mass loss from hot stars, from about 1965 up to now, is discussed in a personal historical perspective. The present state of knowledge about stellar winds, based on papers presented at this workshop, is described. About ten years ago the mechanisms of the winds were reasonably well understood, the mass loss rates were known, and the predi...

Properties of Hot , Massive Stars : The Impact of FUSE Paul

The impact of FUSE upon the fundamental parameters of OB stars and Wolf-Rayet stars is reviewed. The stellar wind signatures available in the far-UV provide us with important additional diagnostics of effective temperature. Together with improved non-LTE stellar atmosphere models allowing for line blanketing and stellar winds, this has led to a downward revision in the spectral type-temperature...

حل منحنیهای نوری و مطالعه نقش میدانهای مغناطیسی در تغییرات پریود سیستم UV Leo

The solutions of photometric BV light curves for the Algol like system UV Leo were obtained using Wilson-Devinney code. The physical and orbital parameters along with absolute dimensions of the system were determined. It has been found that to best fit the V light curve of the system, assumptions of three dark spots were necessary two on the secondary and one on the primary. The absolute visual...
